I have co-authored the API Economy 101 -book because companies and the public sector needed a scientific research-based mind-changing guide with practical examples to API and platform economy. For the same reason I also developed with my team, the global technology company KONE and Tampere University an open-university online course "Introduction to API Economy" which is also available in German, "Einführung in die API-Wirtschaft". The API and platform economy as business models are key components of competitiveness. APIs enable scalability and distributed services, products, and organization. They affect organizational structures and culture in unexpected ways. Ecosystem customer paths run through APIs and platforms. Innovation happens faster and the customer experiences better when you build services using resources from your partner’s ecosystems. When you offer your core capabilities through the API to others, it allows your business to focus on what you do best. How are these business and IT configurations planned and managed? What does the recent research in 2017-2020 tell us? What practical methods are available?
